AS2-Task Three:Requirements for production

The reason to why I need to find things out before the actual production, is because there could be problems that occur. Thus if the problems do occur then we need to be aware, in order to solve it so it does not happen again.

Technical Equipment
  • Camera
  • Tripod
  • Microphone

Luckily the equipment will be provided to us by school media department, yet we can also hire from websites such as hirecamera. So to hire the equipment for two days the camera will cost £80, tripod £16 and microphone £30 meaning the total cost is £126. In addition, the shots are not very long but we may record different angles with one camera, therefore it has to be perfectly precise.
Potential filming location
Our potential filming locations are in Robert Clack School and the other location is my house. To get permission to film in the school we will ask the media teachers of the school, and to film in my house the group will need my permission and obviously if we get permission then we would just have to arrive on time. Personally for me both the locations are in walking distance from each other of five minutes and for my group members it would take just a bit over five minutes to the location by walk. Finally, the issues that might arise in the school is the weather which we are not able to control, along with there being danger of us tripping and the public in this case the students. On the other hand, there seems to be no issues if we were to film in my house.

Actors and Actresses
The sort of actor and actresses we need for the advertisment will be of both genders at the age of 16-17 as it is close to our starting range for the target audience. Furthermore, we decided on not having a well known actor/actress as they could demand a lot of money for something which is just short and simple, so there will be no auditions held. However, myself and Daniel will be casting in the advert for free. Plus, in my opinion I think both me and Daniel can do a good job as we have known each other very well for a long amount of time. Additionaly, as we are going to film in the school we decided we are not going to use the general public, so there is no need for disclaimers yet as mentioned before the public may be walking around to get to lesson. Hence we will wait for them to go, while we get ourselves ready for the next shot and also we may consider a disclaimer as some students could be very disruptive.

Costume and Props
The costumes I will be needing is casual clothing such as jeans, t-shirt, trainers and Daniel will need a tracksuit with trainers. Props we are using are phones as well as earphones. All of the costumes and props involved are our personal belongings, so the costumes will be sourced by myself plus Daniel. Another thing Daniel will provide is earphones, and the phone we are using is provided to us by Basra. Theoretically, the shots may be filmed in the space of a day rather than two, therefore we do not need to store them between shots. But if it ends up to be two days then our properties will be stored in our cupboards at home. Lastly, the costumes will roughly cost just over £50 and the phone costs £450.

AS2-Task Two:Ideas Generation

First and foremost the form of the advertisement is going to be anti-realist, along with it being as sex appeal since our target audience is both girls/females and boys/males. So the reason to why myself and the group chose the form to be anti-realist is because it is not something that actually happens, but it is something that some people may be able to relate to. Furthermore, the content of the advertisement is that the there are two friends who are going to go to lesson together as they have just recently became friends, so this person will be waiting in the playground. However, as the new friend is running late the friend who is waiting decides to listen to music on his phone. Then they friend eventually arrives, yet they friend says that other people had told him that their lesson has been cancelled. Therefore, they enjoy the lovely weather and listen to the music that the phone is projecting clearly. Another point is that the we expect teenagers to be interested in our product as the setting is based in a school. Additionally, the music that we will use will not be copyrighted, despite that it will still be something which is relaxing to emphasis that we are enjoying life. Lastly, the types of shots that we are going to use will be a close up of the phone to show the speakers at the front, also there will be shot reverse shot of us interacting with one another along with the 180 degree rule. A further point is that we may also include a voice over as it looks a lot more professional in the technology market.

Secondly, the form and style of advert is the same as the first idea, and the content for this idea is that there is someone arranging a party. So this individual decides to test if all of the electricals are working, and then the speakers become corrupted, thus the person is stressed out as they have too much to still finish off. Plus the stressed person will show other aspects of the phone as they will text their mate to come over to help. Then the friend arrives and they begin to have a conversation of the phone that is supposed to be really good, again due to the speakers. After the party begins and then everyone is just going to have a fun time, rather then be miserable. Once again the target audience is the same, so it ranges from 15-24. It appeals to the target audience as they can definitely relate to this situation. Another thing which can appeal to the audience is the colours, as it will be dark at first to show the how the people in the advert are bored, then it will brighten up. Finally, the shots that would have been involved are wide shots, close ups. Alongside this the mise en scene consisted of being recorded in a house/living room.

AS2-Task One:Market and Target Audience Research

Proposal
The product that I am planning on advertising is a phone that has extremely amazing speakers which are going to be clear. The USP of the product is that it is light weighted so an individual will not even know that they are carrying a phone around with them. Another thing is that there are different colours available as well as a low price. In addition, there are a few things which do not get provided from other phones, so we decided to pick the speakers to be unique. Also the market that the product fits into is technology.

Target Audience Research
Create your own user feedback survey

After carrying out my research through surveymonkey, I put the results together to figure out the perfect way in which my product can be sold as. From the results 90% of my target audience are aged from 13-19, the rest being 10% is an individual from 20+. Additionally, the ten people who completed my survey, there were only 60% of them saying that battery life is important to them the most than speakers and screen quality, so I simply asked why. The overall responses for battery life indicated that they would need a lot of battery life to be able to do other things for example listen to music with the speakers, and be able to make emergency calls. Then I asked how often they would replace their phone. Majority of them said every two years, and i assume this is because they take good care. Furthermore, there are many brands of phones and I gave three options of an (IOS) iPhone, (Android) Samsung, Nexus etc and Windows. However, it is visible that both (IOS) and (Android) are neck to neck, so either brand of phone can be used in the ad to advertise clear, loud speakers alongside other aspects. The sixth question was about how much money was spent on the phone they own. I had to ask this question to see what range would be affordable enough for our target audience to buy. We decided on £250, as the most someone paid is £400 and least being £20. After we asked what storage capacity they preferred and 20% went for 16GB while the others voted as 40%, evenly splitting between 32/128GB. They picked these storage capacities due to the fact that they wanted space for apps, despite that we chose 64GB as no one picked that option, and some people might not even use many apps. So 64GB is there as a safe option where they will be able to get the best quality phone for a good price. A further point is that we had already chosen the phone and it went in our way further as there was a draw between the size of 4.0' and 5.5', thus the size of the phone we are going to use is 5.7'. Lastly, even the placement of the speakers were in our favour as they wanted it to be at the front, this is good as the speakers would not get blocked as much unless they were on the side/back. Also the front was popular because 90% said so.

Market Research
The advert below is effective because it shows that any age of person can use a phone anywhere as there are a variety of situations shown. In addition, it evidently shows the phone being used to highlight that everyone can buy the Windows phone. Plus they have decided to use serious music as the actors in the advert are saying "Really." The phrase used and music in the advertisement is almost repetitive, which is significant as it is like a trigger that makes the person watching remember a few seconds of the ad. Also the creators used the style of humour due to the fact that everyone in the technology market probably have a particular style so Windows have chosen humour.

Below is an iPhone 6s advert which is also effective because the form of the ad is realistic and the style is famous faces. The celebrity they used is Selena Gomez and by doing so it makes the audience think for a moment that they can do what she's able to do if the phone is really impressive. Another point is that there is a variety of scenery, which helps to attract the buyers because there is a usage of different ages along with the city implying that the phone is for rich people. Lastly, they have demonstrated the phone a lot for so many uses such as being able to multi-task during exercise, as it can track the person's heartbeat while they enjoy the experience of listening to music. So basically the phone is something that can motivate an individual to try new things.

Having searched and seen a diversity amount of adverts, I know that there are many differences. The differences that I have noticed are the fact that they use different styles from each other, and the people involved in the project have used a mixture of emotions to fit into the scenario rather than always being happy, because phones are not always the best in some situations, as seen in the first advertisement. Nevertheless, the similarities includes the music and this is common in nearly all ads, due to the fact that it can keep the target audience engaged easily, so that they are able to witness the fun they might be missing out on. Overall, this suggests that I have to take into regard these aspects when I am creating my advert, because it will only support the ad to be interesting as well as popular when viewed.

AS2-Task Zero:The Languages of Advertising

There are a various types of magazines ranging from;
  1. Music
  2. Sport
  3. Fashion
  4. News
  5. Computing
  6. Teen
  7. Glamour
  8. Food
  9. Lifestyle
  10. Fitness
Language devices are used so that it can grasp the public's attention in investing the magazine to read in their spare time. The sorts of language techniques used are mode of address, alliteration, repetition, personal pronoun, rhetorical questions, abbreviations, exclamation mark, emotive language, colloquial and monosyllabic.

I expect that the magazines should be designed with a catchy title in the middle or somewhere it is bold to attract the people. In addition, there are also some offers that get placed on the magazine to interest the clients. Furthermore, there should be images in the centre and the more the images are big the better as the readers will think that the magazine is vital to purchase.

Alliteration
This literacy device is identified by the sound of the first consonant to be repeated in a series of multiple words, or the repetition of the same sounds. The phrase from this magazine is 'From Fashion.'

Repetition
Repetition is used to reinforce the message to the reader, so the magazine advertisers have done it by using the colour of pink a lot. This means that it entices the girls to by the magazine and feel as if they can get a bit of interesting knowledge. However, at the same time it is stereotypical that pink is associated with girls as it is not.

Rhetorical Question
It is a question that is asked but has an answer which is obvious or due to the answer being obvious, there is no need to expect an answer. Despite that the publishers used this following rhetorical question 'Can you really reverse it?' This can intrigue the reader to carry on reading to find out what they can or cannot reverse.

Personal Pronoun
This is when there are a set to show contrasts of a person, gender and number. In the magazine it is portrayed as 'My life' and this personal pronoun is implying that maybe Ellie Goulding or someone else is going to share something about themselves that no one else knows.

Abbreviations
LBD This language device is when there are words or phrases shortened, and the abbreviation that is part of this fashion/glamour magazine is 'LBD'. 'LBD' means 'Little Black Dress' so this is used as the new generation should understand the text without being bewildered, but if 'LBD' or other abbreviations were to not be understood in this magazine there is an image besides the text.

Exclamation Mark
Exclamation mark is used so that there can be a display of emotion that can be strong or urgent feelings. The magazine has quite a few exclamation marks but the one that fascinated me, and probably even the readers is 'Amp up your look.' It fascinated me as this has a combination of language devices in one.

Mode of Address
It is just a way in which the media will speak to the audience and they would do this by the point of view in first or third person, directness also whether it is formal or even informal. From this magazine there are many modes of addresses, but the one I have found is 'You'll Love.' This was done so that it looks like the publishers are up to date with recent trends, and it means that the girls can agree with the statement.

Monosyllabic
This language technique means to use one syllable words so that when the person reads it the text which should and most likely be short and snappy to make it more memorable. The publishers used 'Look' and 'Ellie'

Emotive Language
It is used in order to evoke the audience with great emotional impact that can be positive or negative. In this glamour magazine the publishers went with a negative emotion by stating that there is a 'Health scare that's changing my life'.

Colloquial
This is informal language predominately used in conversations, and the colloquialism that has been used is 'Rinsta or Finsta.' First of all 'Rinsta' or 'Finsta' means real or fake Instagram, and the magazine industry will be able to relate easily as they the modern generation use Instagram now as well as slang.

Rhyme
This means the similarity of sound between words or the endings of words, that normally are always used at the end of lines. The rhyme used is 'Frock drop', and rhyme is not always necessary in every magazine of different genres, yet in this particular magazine if it were not used then the magazine would seem just a tad tedious.

Rule of Three
The rule of three is used in threes because it implies that they can essentially be funnier, more satisfying or more effective than other number of things. The rule of three that has been used in the glamour/fashion magazine is the three ladies that have cities such as New York City, London and Millan. These three cities are going to make the reader feel as if they should travel to these places, because the style is really magnificent and they would love to be looking good and popular.

The magazine above is a music magazine which is targeted to people who enjoy a bit of gossip of famous musicians life.

Alliteration
The alliteration that the publishers had came up with is 'Conor's Confessions' and this is likely to be used in this music magazine, because the way in which music can be catchy so are these words. Therefore, this makes the readers want to know as well as learn new things instantly.

Repetition
There is repetition of the colours blue and pink to create this joyful atmosphere, that an individual can view.

Rhetorical Question+Personal Pronoun
I think these two language devices as one indicates that only the person reading knows the answer as the question asked is 'Are You Ready For Summer Love?' I belief this is sneakily clever as the publishers are not trying to intend that the reader is absolutely ready for summer love, however they can only be the person to make the choice.

Abbreviations
'BBC' stands for British Broadcasting Corporation and this abbreviation is not anything to get excited over. But they are probably who helped in providing some information to make the magazine worth buying.

Exclamation Mark
'Revealed!' As I have said before magazines tend to use exclamation marks to make things seem urgent/important. So in this case the thing that needs to be 'Revealed!' is urgent if someone wants to be updated on things nearly everyday, then they can be if they purchase the magazine.

Mode of Address
"I've Got Major Confidence Issues" This is effective as it grabs attention due to the fact that some people can relate and, they feel closer to the celebrity and support them through social media.

Monosyllabic
In addition, 'Cher' is the name of the musician whose picture is in the centre and this is probably suggesting that she is the main focus of this magazine so if anyone is interested in 'Cher' then they should have a read etc.

Colloquial
The colloquialism that is used in the magazine is 'Amazeballs', and this is informal but it means that the posters are impressive. Thus if the posters included within the magazine are that good then it is exactly the same for the complete magazine.

Rule of Three
Another language device is the rule of three, and this magazine has three different guys who have something to say which is quite revealing. Thus this is always good to use in a variety of ways because with this method of three guys, the girls would easily feel as if they are connected if they know something about their so called crushes or just famous celebrities.
